Angelo Moscato

Of Revere

Angelo Moscato of Revere died on February 18.

The beloved husband of the late Maria T. (Iannello) Moscato, he was the loving son of the late Thomas and Ermina Moscato; devoted father of Dorothea Jewkes and her husband, Freddy of Revere and Charles Moscato of Middleboro; cherished grandfather of Anthony, Brianna, and Olivia Moscato, all of Carver; dear brother of Lisa Intoccia and her late husband, Giulio of Attleboro and the late brother of Prisco Moscato and Pasqualina Grieci.  He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

His  Funeral will be held from the Paul Buonfiglio & Sons-Bruno Funeral Home, 128 Revere St., Revere on Thursday, February 23 at 9 a.m. followed by a  Funeral Mass in St. Anthony’s Church at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are kindly invited.  Visitation will be held today, Wednesday, from 4 to 8 p.m.  Entombment will be in Holy Cross Mausoleum.  David Mellen, Sr.

20 Year Operation Mechanic at Eversource

David E. Mellen, Sr. of Revere passed away unexpectedly on February 16 at Boston’s Massachusetts General Hospital. He was 66 years old.

Born and raised in Somerville, he moved to Revere in 1982. He was a graduate of Somerville High School, Class of 1968, entered the US Navy in March of 1971 and served aboard the USS Fulton as a Machinist’s Mate 2nd class during the Vietnam Era. He was a proud and active member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 369 and a former member of the Masons.

The cherished father of Rachael L. Mellen, David E. Mellen, III and Timothy F. Mellen, all of Revere, he was the beloved son of the late Hugh F. Mellen and Mildred (Waddington) Mellen of Somerville.

Family and friends are invited to attend his funeral service today, Wednesday, February 22 at 11 a.m. in the Vertuccio & Smith Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Route 107) Revere. Interment will follow at the Massachusetts National VA Cemetery, Bourne. Maria Gunn-Venuti

Of Revere

Maria J. Gunn-Venuti, a long-time resident of the Revere Beach area and formerly of Orient Heights in East Boston, peacefully passed away in her sleep on Wednesday, February 15 at Hathorne Hill Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Danvers.

Born in Chelsea in September of 1920, Maria was the youngest child and only surviving daughter of Paolo and Giuseppa (Tinerello) Ciaramella.  She was predeceased by her parents, her five brothers: Raphael (Ralph), Nicholas, Armando (Eddie), Anthony, and Martin Ciaramella and their spouses and her sister, Martha Ciaramella. She was also predeceased by the love of her life, quintessential dancing partner and husband, Joseph F. Gunn.

Maria was educated at St. Rose Elementary School and Chelsea High School prior to embarking upon a colorful and diverse career path – as a sales consultant for Mdm. Merken’s Foundation Garments in Boston – a nurse’s aide which placed her in the middle of the chaos of the November, 1942 Coconut Grove Fire in Boston – a welder and riveter at the Boston Naval Shipyard during and after World War II – a buyer for the Robert Hall Company – A hostess and waitress at the Ritz Family Restaurant on Revere Street in Revere  and as a hostess and waitress at Jimmy Magg’s Restaurant on Bennington Street in East Boston from which she retired at the age of 79. Maria loved travelling with her daughter, Paula (England, Ireland, Scotland and Egypt) and her St. Lazarus Sr. Citizen buddies. She also loved ballroom dancing, music and the theater.

She is survived by her two loving daughters Valerie Gunn of Maine and Paula Gunn of Chelsea, her adoring Ciaramella nieces and nephews (the children and grandchildren of her five brothers), her sister-in-law Frances Gunn of Winthrop, her brother-in-law, Thomas Powers of Virginia, and the many nieces and nephews of the

Gunn, Powers, Underwood and Silva families.

Family and friends will honor Maria’s life by gathering in Vazza’s “Beechwood” Funeral Home, 262 Beach St. Revere today, Wednesday, February 22 from 9 to 11 a.m. followed by a service in our chapel of the resurrection at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett and then, at 2 p.m., a Celebration of Life with Family, Friends, and Caregivers will be held at Hathorne Hill Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, 15 Kirkbride Drive, Danvers. Carmela Coughlin

Of New Hampshire, formerly of Revere

Carmela (Pesce) Coughlin of Northwood, NH, formerly of Revere, died on February 12 in her 87th year.

Carmela was a great artist who enjoyed sketching, painting, word searches, and bingo with her sisters. Her family and grandchildren meant everything to her. She will be sorely mssed by all who knew her.

She was the beloved wife of the late Arthur Coughlin; loving daughter of the late Frank and Luggie (Yebba); devoted mother of Arthur Coughlin and his wife, Sylvia of New York, Michael Coughlin and his wife, Elizabeth of Beverly, Francis Coughlin and partner, Kathleen Swarbrick of Manchester, NH, and Maureen Bready and her husband, Thomas of Northwood, NH; dear sister of Micky DeVito and her husband, John of Revere, Frank Pesce and his late wife, Carol of Revere, Angela DiChiara and her husband, Michael of Saugus, Michael Pesce and his wife, Ella of Revere, Mary Ann Stella and her husband, Louis of Lawrence and the late Fanny, Lucy, Lila, and Rita; cherished grandmother of Janis, Brian, Nicholas, Stacey, Shelley, Andrew, Michael, Matthew, Christopher, Kristen, Megan and Sean. She is also survived by her loving great grandchildren: Daniel, Evelyn, Orion, Elysia, Fiora, and Trevor.

Joseph Kehoe

A Gentleman’s gentleman with an overwhelming personality, Polaroid retiree, active in Immaculate Conception Church community

A Funeral Mass was celebrated for Joseph R. Kehoe of Revere on February 4 in the Immaculate Conception Church in Revere. Services concluded with Military Honors followed by interment in Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden.

Born and raised in Revere, he was a graduate of Revere High School, Class of 1951. Joe entered the U.S. Navy in June of 1952 and served until June of 1956 as a Radioman 3rd Class. His time with the military, during the Korean Conflict, was one of Joe’s most proud accomplishments. Joe’s career began and ended with Polaroid Corp. in Waltham, where he worked for 37 years within the Human Resources- Personnel Division as a Senior Supervisor.

He and his beloved late wife, Rita L. (Quinlan) Kehoe, who passed on January 28, 2015, were devotees of the Immaculate Conception Parish Community serving on many of the social clubs within the elementary and high school of the parish. He was a long-time usher at the Sunday and Saturday evening Masses.

A gentleman’s gentleman was his mantra, as well as an overwhelming personality. He was an amateur comedic magician, especially enjoying performing for his grandchildren, great grandchildren and the neighborhood children. His quips were –no– are legendary and well-remembered. His hobbies were many and his interest in them, intense. He long-enjoyed bowling, playing bocci, softball, traveling and woodworking. Every year he and his wife, Rita would tackle a household project, working side by side until completion.

He was the cherished father of Joseph E. Kehoe and his wife, Francesca M. of Upton, Cheryl A. Frye and her husband, Robert of Revere, Marie L. Kehoe and her companion, K.C. Cockrill of Natick, James M. Kehoe and his wife, Doreen of Stoneham, Patricia E. Casey and her husband, William F. of Billerica and John R. Kehoe of Albuquerque, New Mexico;  the dear brother of Marilyn Carroll of Revere. Over the years, Joseph was predeceased by eight brothers and five sisters. He is also lovingly survived by 12 grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and by many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

Jerry DeLena

Decorated veteran; retired Revere Commissioner of Veterans Affairs, known as ‘King of the one liner’

Jerry DeLena of Revere died on February 16.

Jerry served in the United States Army during World War II and was a recipient of the Purple Heart GO 108 Hq 45th GH with Oak Leaf Cluster GO 110 Hq 45th GH, Good Conduct Medal GO 13 HQ 350th INF, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, and the Bronze Star.  Jerry was the Commissioner of the Veterans Affairs in Revere for 32 years. He had a great sense of humor and was known as the king of the one liner. Jerry enjoyed watching all of the Boston sports teams.

The beloved husband of 63 years to the late Marcella (Shealey), he was the devoted father of Christopher and his late wife, Judith Anne of Braintree, Retired Deputy Chief RFD Stephen of Revere, James and his wife, Talmira of Glen, NH and Thomas and his wife, Wendy of North Reading; dear brother of Joe DeLena of Florida, Richard DeLena and his wife, Marilyn of Florida, Bobby DeLena and his wife, Joan of Melrose and the late Kay Penza, Frank DiLena, Rose Marrota, Gloria McDonald, Ronald and Louis.  He is also survived by four loving grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Gaetano ‘Guy’ Guarino

Of Revere, formerly of Boston’s North End

Gaetano “Guy” Guarino of Revere, formerly of Boston’s North End, passed away on Wednesday, February 15. He was 75 years old.

Guy, who proudly served his country in the US Army, was the cherished son of the late Carmine and Assunta (D’Amore) Guarino; beloved husband of Cathy (Coviello) Guarino; loving father of Denise, David and Steven Guarino; adored brother of Antonio Guarino and his wife, Anna and the late Teresa D’Andrea who is survived by her husband, Fiorentino; caring brother-in-law of Rosa LoBuono and her husband, Frank, John Coviello and his wife, Anne, Vito Coviello and his wife, Floriana, Sergio Coviello and his wife, Sharon and Nancy Garrett and is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.

Barbara Livick-Blair

Former Revere Resident

Barbara Livick-Blair “Barb” or “Babs”, formerly Barbara Novin of Honolulu, Hawaii; Derry, New Hampshire and Revere passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Thursday, February 9. She was 60 years old.

Barbara was as a hair stylist for many years. She worked for Salon Continentale of Belmont, Massachusetts. She also owned her own Salon in Welches, Oregon named Barb’s Hair Design. Barb graduated from Northeast Regional Vocational School class of 1975. She was an avid Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots fan. Barb loved to travel and was an excellent cook. She will be remembered by her friends and family all over as a fun loving, free spirit with a kind heart.

She is survived by her loving husband, Jerry Blair as well as her beloved sons: Alex Novin of Vancouver, Washington and Nick Novin of Honolulu, Hawaii. She is also survived by her mother, Jean Livick, her sisters: Jeanette Livick, Lynn Munafo and Patrice Livick as well as by many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father, Frank Livick and her brother, Frank Livick.

James Shea

His true passion was race horses and he owned more than 20 race horses over the years

James M. Shea of Nahant, formerly of Jamaica Plain, died on February 15.

James graduated from Boston College High School and earned his degree at UMass Amherst.  He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and received the Good Conduct Medal.  James worked in Corporate Security for the Polaroid Company.  He was a member of the Massachusetts Chiefs of Police and the Drug Enforcement unit.  James enjoyed watching the Red Sox and the Patriots but his true passion was race horses, and over the years owned over 20.

He was the beloved father of Jill Shea and her husband, Jeremy Gonsalves of Dover; dear brother of Geraldine McVay of Falmouth; cherished grandfather of Jake and Emma and loving uncle of Ann McVay and Janet Pratt.

Michelle Macchione

Michelle (Inglese) Macchione of Revere died suddenly on February 14.

The beloved wife of the late Charles A., she was the devoted mother of Anthony Macchione of Revere; loving daughter of the late Larry and Hannah (Stary) McCarthy; dear sister of Deborah Fudge and her husband, Keith of Everett, Lawrence Inglese and his wife, Tara of Londonderry NH and Jeffrey Inglese of South Boston; cherished grandmother of Vincent James Macchione and is also survived by her loving step father, Al McCarthy and nieces and nephews: Amanda, Lauren, Samantha, Erik, Lorenzo, Jon-Vincent, and Giovani.

Joseph J. DeStefano, Sr.

Revere Beach Blvd. Entrepreneur

Joseph J. DeStefano, a native of Revere, died following a long illness at the Pilgrim Rehabilitation Center of Peabody on Friday, February 17.

Born in Boston, the family moved to Revere when Joe was a young boy. Joe lived in Revere almost all of his life and for about 20 years, he was a resident of Andover. He was a graduate of Revere High School, Class of 1952. In his early working career, Joe dabbled in the shoe industryas a cobbler and manufacturer. Later, he became one of Revere Beach Boulevard’s pioneers in restaurants and lounges. For many years, he managed and owned several small, but busy, bars including the Jo-Jo Room, Hurley’s Palm Gardens and the Beach Ball, all located on the infamous Revere Beach Boulevard. For over 15 years, Joe owned and operated his last enterprise, “Joey D’s” at Orient Heights, East Boston. “Joey D’s” staff and the “the gang” it attracted, made it the place to be and be seen. It made “Cheers” seem tame.

Joe was a long-time member of the Fox Hill Yacht Club of Saugus and a social member of the Joseph L. Mottollo V.F.W. Post #4524 of Revere.

He was the devoted father to Debra A. Jones and her husband, Rodney of Andover, Dawna L. Emma and her husband, Philip of Topsfield and Dr. Joseph J. DeStefano, Jr. PhD and his wife, Dr. Alicia DeStefano, PhD of Northborough and the adored grandfather of Joseph J. DeFabrizio of Amesbury, Zachary Jones of Malden, Kaleb Jones of Andover, Christopher P. Emma of Somerville, Jonathon P. Emma of San Francisco, Calif., Isabella and Mia DeStefano, both of Northborough. Also surviving Joe is his faithful friend and former wife, Anne E. (Mundy) DeStefano of Andover, the proud mother of his children. He was the beloved son of the late Joseph and Anita C. (Marshall) DeStefano; the loving and faithful brother to Anita Vinciarelli and her husband, Anthony, M. Louise Powers, all of Revere, Marie Lupien and her husband, Mark of Sudbury, Margaret Johnson of Revere, Leonard DeStefano, Carl DeStefano and his wife, Shelia, all of Winthrop, Sylvia Michetti and her husband, Robert of Wallington, CT and the late Anna R. Alongi, the Matriarch of the DeStefano Family. Many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews, also survive him.

Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours today, Wednesday, February 22 from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Vertuccio & Smith Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Rte. 107) Revere. His funeral will be conducted from the Funeral Home on Thursday, February 23 at 10 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Anthony of Padua Church, 250 Revere St., Revere at 11 a.m. Interment will be private.

Albert ‘Al’ Romano

Retired civil engineer and owner of Global Associates, family meant everything to him

Albert “Al” Romano of Lynnfield, formerly of Revere, passed away on February 19 surrounded by family.

Al proudly served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a prisoner of war in Romania, part of the Ploesti Air Raid, and was a part of the Air Offensive Europe, Naples-Foggia, Normandy, Air Combat, Sicily, and Northern France battles and campaigns. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart, Unit Citation, Distinguished Flying Cross and European African Middle Eastern Service Medal. Albert worked as a Civil Engineer for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in Boston before retiring and opening up his own firm Gloral Associates where he worked until his passing. Al would take his entire family on vacation every year. His family meant everything to him and he would do anything for them. Albert was a member of the Knights of Columbus of Revere, the Crystal Community Club in Wakefield and Immaculate Conception Holy Name Society in Revere. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends.

He was the beloved husband of 66 years to Gloria L. (Polcari); loving son of the late Louis and Josephine (Zolla); devoted father of Denise Ratti and her husband, Donald of Woburn and Diane Falite and her husband, Ronald of Lynnfield; dear brother of Edith Crowley and her late husband, Bill of Middleton, Janet Prochilo and her late husband, John of Middleton, Frank Romano and wife, Carmella of Florida, brother in law to Catherine and Donna Romano, and his late brothers Louis, Arthu, and Joseph “Buster” Romano. He was the cherished grandfather of Melissa Cauger and her husband, Michael, Steven Ratti, Kristal Markiewicz and her husband, Craig, Stephanie Falite, Courtney Doucette and her husband, Christopher and dear great grandfather of Michael, Miranda, Zachary and Jada. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
