COLDWATER — Outdoors and socially distanced, the city will try to get a little normal in historic Downtown Coldwater on Saturday, Jan. 23, when it hosts a modified Winter Festival from 1-4 pm.

“This is our COVID version. Julie Santure and the creation department has a number of things planned outdoors,” City Manager Keith Baker said.

There are plans for live wood carving demonstrations, sled dogs, a juggler, along with a snowman building contest.

Baker and his staff feel they can comply with COVID-19 restrictions and still hold the festival. It was changed from Icefest after the city took over downtown events from the Chamber of Commerce.

At the library, there are kids' activities which include snow volcanos and icy bubbles.

Downtown Coldwater will feature several handmade snowmen created by local clubs, organizations, businesses and churches. The judging for the best snowman will be public voting via Facebook. The snowmen will be displayed for the duration of the event.

A change from ice sculptures to live wood carvings at the Four Corners, two carvers will work on their masterpieces during the event.

For those who participate in "Takeout Tuesday" or "Downtown Deals of the Day" on Saturday, there is a chance to win one of the carvings.

Clark the Juggler will perform many juggling acts during the event, including juggling with fire.

Since COVID-19 has stopped the the yearly soup/chili tasting competition, the city partnered with the Chamber to support local restaurants.

Participating businesses are running a one-day special Saturday, Jan. 23. Purchase an item from any of the participating businesses and turn in your receipt to have a chance to win a wood carving that was created during the event.
