Sidney Arthur Mason passed away peacefully at home on March 20, 2021 at the age of 85. It was the first day of Spring and we are sure God needed him for his greatest garden.

Sid was born June 23, 1935 to Ralph A. and Ida Allen Mason in Imperial, Missouri. He was reared and educated in the surrounding areas of St. Louis, Missouri and Concord, California and graduated from Mt. Diablo High (Concord, CA) in 1955. From 1956 to 1962 he served in the United States Navy and was assigned to the Sea Bee’s (construction) Battalion as a builder (carpenter). His home base was Port Hueneme, California.

Sid met and married the love of his life, Esther Marie Schall on February 10, 1962 at St. Peters Catholic Church in Dixon, California. They made their first home in Oxnard, California, and were blessed with two children, Steve and Keith Mason.

After being a Union Carpenter for 42 years, Sid retired from the Carpenter’s Union, Provo, Utah in June of 1997. He had worked as a brick layer, iron worker, and construction finisher. Many of his working years were for Custodis and Kellogg Construction Company at Power Plants which took him and his family traveling throughout the U.S. and New Zealand. It was the building of the Huntington Power Plant that brought him to Price, Utah. He and his family liked the area, bought a home, and settled down.

Some of Sid’s interests in life were woodworking, fishing, camping, rock hunting, gardening, football, and the Utah Jazz. He was especially proud of his grandchildren and would light up whenever they came to visit.

He is survived by his wife Esther, his sons, Steve (Sharon) and Keith (Rebecca) Mason; two grandchildren, Daryn and Abigayle Mason, all of Price, Utah; sister, Beverly Hammack, Sacramento, CA; brother, Ralph (Elaine) Mason, Ogden, UT; sister-in-law, Becky Mason, Orlando, FL and many nieces and nephews.

Sid was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Ida Mason, brothers, Edward and Bill Mason; brother-in-law, Dave Hammack and several nephews.

Per Sid’s request there will be no services. Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home where friends are welcome to share memories at www.mitchellfuneralhome.net.
