The monthly fish fry will be held at the Mount Brydges Legion on July 27 from 5 p.m. 7 p.m. Enjoy two pieces of battered fish, french fries, coleslaw, roll, beverage, and dessert for $12. All are welcome.

The next musical evening in the concert series fundraiser for Kilworth United Church renovations will be held at Delaware United Church on Sunday, July 29 at 7 p.m.  Music will be by a jazz quartet.

Enjoy the  next Wednesday afternoon euchre to be held at the Mount Brydges Legion on Wednesday, Aug.1 at 1 p.m.  Light refreshments served.

For the month of August, Knox Presbyterian Church will be closed. The congregation will join its sister congregation of North Caradoc/St. Andrews on Scotchmere Drive.  All services will be held at 10 a.m.

Melbourne/Middlemiss

A number of Melbourne area folks were part of the Appin Tours Bus Trip on Saturday, July 14. The first stop was a shopping stop at Coyle’s Country Store near Tillsonburg.

First there was a guided tour of the Ingersoll Cheese and Agricultural Museum. Ingersoll, known for its cheese history, goes back 150 years. There was seven site buildings and exhibits. Visitors were able to see a strap one of the teachers left on the teachers desk in the old school.

The day’s events were topped off by dinner and show at the Walter’s Theatre at Bright. The evening’s performers were Tayla Lynn and Tre Twitty, who saluted their grandparents Loretta Lynn and Conway Twitty, two of the country music legends of our times.

Congratulations to Dayna Wolfe and David Bowen who were married on July 14 at Dayna’s parents’s backyard in Melbourne. Family and friends joined the happy couple for the reception at the Agricultural Hall. After the ceremony, Dayna and David were given a tour through the village on a clean manure spreader driven by Dave Elliott so people could congratulate the happy couple.

Folks were also shuttled from the Wolfe residence to the Agricultural Hall by the Hathaway Horse Drawn Carriage.

Melbourne Legion Branch #510 will hold a fundraising breakfast on Sunday July 22 from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Poplar Hill/Coldstream

Don’t forget to stop by our Coldstream Farmer’s Market every Saturday morning throughout the summer from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. There are delicious baked goods, fresh veggies and fruit, craft items, sewing items, crochet work, woodworking and the Friends of the Coldstream Library will be selling used books.

Look for the signs directing you down the lane past The Marsh Store and Quilt Shop. New vendors are welcome by calling Janice at 519-666-0461.

Drop in during open library hours to make a Camp Read S’More craft. Also a Bike Blender from the Middlesex County Healthy Kids Community Challenge will be at our Coldstream Library on Wednesday Aug. 1 during opening hours, so come and make a delicious smoothie by riding the bike

The Coldstream Library has movie nights every Wednesday. Disney’s Aladdin is this week’s movie, Aug. 1 at 6 p.m. Join everyone for a fun time and free snacks.

Another fun summer event is earning scratch tickets when you check out items from any Middlesex County Library (books, eBooks, audiobooks, graphic novels or magazines) in the Scratch-Off Summer Challenge. Ask Staff how to play. For more info call Leslie-Anne at 519-666-1201.

The Poplar Hill Lions are still collecting any old eyeglasses to help others who cannot afford them on their own. Look for the large yellow bin beside the Poplar Hill Park sign on Ilderton Rd

Finally, Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir are coming home to Ilderton for a big event Aug. 4. It will begin with a parade starting at 3 p.m. to say thank you to all their fans, family, friends, and especially the town of Ilderton for all of the support over the years. There is going to be all kinds of activities and music planned for the day.
